WHY STUDY NORs ?

NORs play an important role in different fields :

• Environmental Role → N₂O is a major greenhouse gas and an ozone depleting gas that is 310 times more harmful then CO₂. N₂O is mainly produced by NOR catalysed reactions making their study essential to potentially prevent its formation and accumulation.

• Medicinal Role → Nitric oxide (NO) can be used by macrophages as a weapon against infectious molecules . Some pathogenic bacterias use NOR as a defence against the immune system by neutralising the highly toxic NO produced by the macrophages. Study of this process might elucidate improved treatment options for patients.
